DC Universe Has Released Photos
for Swamp Thing

By Jenna Clark

This is not your typical DC Universe Hero in Swamp Thing

The newest hero from the DC Universe is in the works of making his debut, yet this will be unlike anything the streaming service has seen. Whereas Titans used a grim and gritty approach to the superheroes, Doom Patrol embraced the weird, Swamp Thing will apply a more gruesome Gothic edge. Though, the most recent teaser suggested some more romantic elements to be had.

With the pilot premiere on May 31st, DC Universe just released new images from the plot for Swamp thing, including a look at the marshy creatures’ exterior

“I heard, without giving anything away, I heard on the production side at one point a story from one of the upper echelon creators, or studio execs saying something like, ‘Wait, you’re going to do what on-screen?’” Mears explained. “They go, ‘That’s pretty…that’s really violent.’”

Targeting the Audience

Much like the others, Titans, and Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing will take advantage of the streaming service’s mature label. I am a bit thrilled. Derek Mears recently stated that the show would be leaning heavily into that “hard R” rating.

One thing to note is that producer James Wan and writer Gary Dauberman both have been carefully managing the Conjuring franchise of films and spinoffs. Mears even compared Swamp Thing to be very much like Seven. Saying “like really dark and broody, and I’m excited.”

Furthermore, taking a glance at the images, I can say that I am excited yet also terrified to watch. The way that Swamp Thing is shown will be going to be downright horrifying. Think Davy Jones meets Predator. As a result, it looks like they will be taking a more practical approach to the monster’s look.

Swamp Thing will premiere on May 31, 2019, exclusively on DC Universe.

Jenasis-twitch

Earlier this year I started my Podcast, Geek Responsibly, my website, Geeks & Garters, was updated and I began outlining a novel. Yet, I am now working on building my Twitch Stream! I have hit Twitch Affiliate within my first month!
Though, something that crosses my mind about this new venture is:

Is it too late to become a Twitch Streamer?

From my experience so far, I will go with NO! It is never too late. Some key points on how you can stand out in this bustling, over populated streaming world would be:

  • How do you stand out?
  • Find your niche ( what games do you play?)
  • Work hard
  • Time Management

The internet is endless! There are so many opportunities and many new ways to approach something that seems ‘too hard’ to be successful. Don’t let the fact that Twitch is popular and there is already people doing what you wanted. Also, don’t let your thoughts of not feeling good enough be an excuse to stopping you from living your dreams and passions.

How do you stand out?

This may seem difficult. However, there is a simple answer.

As long as you are creating entertaining and authentic content that is somewhat different to other’s streaming the same games. You Will Stand Out From The Noise!

Honestly, you do not have to recreate content. You can be incredibly successful doing something similar to others -just be yourself! This is the same when authors write books that are similar concepts as others. Though, they write the way they interpret which catches the eye of their followers.

Now I am not saying to go copy everything that another streamer is doing, because they are not you. You can take certain points, techniques or how they play the game and incorporate this within your own. This is a great opportunity to show the followers who you are! Your catchphrases, emotes, badges, sounds, and alerts can all be unique to you and your “theme”.

Similarly, you play Farming Simulator like Empyre. If he is not currently on, who says his audience is not looking for somebody just like you?

Find Your Own Niche

This will be a phrase that you will hear often. If you notice that there are gaps within the Twitch Market you should be looking to fill these gaps! What is the value you bring to viewers?

Are you an incredible painter? Do you love health & wellness? Why not incorporate these into live streams? You can paint and talk about techniques, brushes, and do giveaways.

Build up a community, you could start moving those live streams into YouTube channel which you can start connecting to even more parts of the world. If this continues to grow, who says you cannot write ‘How to’ PDFs and sell them!

There are ways to find your niche:

Who are you?

Just be yourself. Yes, people fake characters just like DrDisrespect, yet that is 100% him acting as his character! Which he has roughly 3million followers. Clearly, he is doing everything to entertain and engage his followers.

Study other’s Stream!

Read, watch, listen to everything that other streamers are doing that are similar to you and your stream. In this case, watch a ridiculous amount of Twitch streamers to understand what ‘niche’ they are working with. See which streamers are standing out on other platforms, such as Twitter, Instagram, YouTube. While you watch, critically dissect what they do and what made their stream funny? What is their branding? What makes them stand out and engage their audience?

Just because there are 127 streamers doing better than you, doesn’t mean there is no room for you to become successful.

Simply put, get ready to work your socks off. Consistency is key. Get a schedule down to stream 3 times a week and 1 day jump into other streamers chat and watch. Yet, don’t work too hard…

Time Management

I understand it is overwhelming thinking of adding a Streaming schedule and dedicating 3 or more days to this platform. It isn’t easy to balance life and adding a side hustle. Time must become something you plan for! I added it to my Google Calendar.

Make sure to give yourself some free time to also relax. Note, if you are willing to drop 5 hours a week into a Netflix binge, that is 5 hours you could have spent creating or improving content…

I hope this helps and gives you a bit more confidence to jump into the Twitch Streaming world. The internet is endless with opportunities. I mean the other day I stumbled upon ASMR. I do not recommend looking into this, though now that I say this I am sure you already clicked out of here and searched for it. It was terrifying and confusing. Yet, seeing the amount of people following these Streamers built my confidence that I could make it with better content I just need to make the time and create the content!

Mermaid memoir 1

My Story is one filled with anxiety, depression, uncertainty, and mistakes.

A memoir is memories that an individual writes about moments or events, either public or private, that took place in the subject’s life.

Moving forward these will be my Mermaid Memoirs.

It is raining today. The soft sound of the pitter-patter or droplets upon the ground. Watching them happily dance on the leaves of the tree outside of my dining room window. These create a calming to the day. A subtlety that gets forgotten within the bustle of our busy world. My heart weeps. Therefore, It feels just like the rain outside. The debilitating anxiety causes the inability to be able to finish the tasks that I need to. I feel even worse about myself. To clarify, with zero energy, drive, or focus to bring myself to fulfill any of my aspirations.

Anxiety rises within my chest causing my heart to flutter and my lungs become tight.
My eyes begin to burn as the tears form filling up the bottom lid blurring my vision. I feel like I let everyone down, I feel like a failure, not good enough and that I am not worthy.

I have fallen back into the self-help realm. With the absence of these books and podcasts and without any of my ongoing practices of meditation and yoga I feel disconnected. Disconnected from the world around me and mostly myself. My true inner self. Connecting to the Universe, I can get things done, feel less foggy and definitely not as depressed.

That is to say, all of the things I want to do and accomplish suffocate me. I want my podcast to be a successful place to bring awareness and aid to anxiety and depression.

My website keeps falling behind. I would like it to be a place to come to share and bring hope, love and more ways to overcome feelings of not being good enough. Similarly, my site should be providing information like my top gurus.

In conclusion, I want to write books and inspire others.

Harry Potter Sorcers Stone

Today is National Read a damn Book Day!

Potentially added some words to this National Day. Time to celebrate one of my favorite holidays! We can be honest that any day that involves reading or a book is a holiday created for me!

As of late it is difficult to get books in our busy days, turning to Audible is the only way I can really stay in the game! When I was growing up it was so easy to just sit ALL day disappearing into a new land, time, or world all together. One of my all time favorite books was obviously Harry Potter. I was in fifth grade when I stumbled upon the magical world of Potter! I would visit the bookstore frequently with my best friends. We created a tiny book club… No Biggie!

The day was like any other day, we walked into Waldenbooks and started to peruse the shelves and definitely the Teen Section. I know I was young yet I have always been a hopeless romantic! Making me really interested in romantic stories. To this day I watch coming of age/teen series, now more with paranormal nuances.

Picking up Harry Potter and the Sorcer’s Stone

I was heading out of the bookstore as I passed a circular table right at the front, how did I miss this table? I picked up the paperback seeing a boy on the front on a broom. Never hearing the title or seeing this cover I wasn’t sure what it was about or if I would even want to waste my time with this. Like now, I pick a book solely on its cover and then read the synopsis. If it sounds interesting I’ll buy it!

Also, just like tv/movies, it is similar to dating. Once a series ends it is like breaking up. Now you gotta get back out in the “dating” world. “My friends say you are interesting”. On the other spectrum, “It isn’t me it is you, you’re really bad and there was zero depth in your character development. Not even a climax”

Life Changing Series

To continue, everyone has had that book series that impacted them as they were growing up. It is one you could relate to, made you feel like home, and helped you through hardships. The characters were your best friends you had to rush home and dive right into your comfy spot, binging chapter after chapter. I didn’t have Netflix when I was growing up. To be honest, I am very grateful for that.

When the second book for Harry Potter came out I was lucky enough to have my father take me to the midnight launch. It was memorable, not only because I could spend time with my dad yet also I could continue the story I was waiting so patiently for!

Reading is life changing!

What is your favorite book?

What are you currently reading?

What series changed your life or helped you?

Yet, now with the stress becoming overwhelming and taking over my feelings I am now heading back down the stairs to see if I can find something to eat. It starts with my coffee, then oatmeal, the next thing I know, I am elbows deep in a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream. Where did this even come from?

Now, I feel guilt, more anxiety and the overwhelming feeling that I failed yet again. Well, also feeling bloated and upset that I am not looking like a IFBB pro, how do I get so out of control?

Can you relate?

This is emotional eating. It happens more than you may think. It isn’t about clearing out the fridge like Kirby with one breath in. It is when you find yourself eating for reasons other than satisfying your actual physical hunger.

I do not believe that it is solely our fault. Marketing for food companies constantly strive to build a connection between food and our emotions. We are promised an emotional benefit beyond the food itself which is closely linked to comfort, excitement, even belonging.

The Anxiety Starts To Take Over…

The anxiety starts to take over and I can feel this persistent nagging within in my belly. A flutter in my chest and my mind is feeling like it is running at Ludacris speed. I begin to pick at my nails, jump from social media app to social media app, stopping myself after a few minutes to try and focus so that I can write. I took a couple of hours off from work today. So that I could write a blog post and here I am looking up other things and wasting time.

Building with pressure in my chest!

It provides a momentary sense of pleasure and satisfaction when you are not feeling the greatest. Yet, why are you not feeling well? Overeating has a numbing, softening effect on our unwanted feelings. Love Yourself. When your emotions go awry what are some things you can do to take care of yourself in a loving manner? I choose journaling. I write about how I am feeling and what may be causing these issues.

It is OK to feel sad, mad, depressed, scared, exhausted, etc. Welcome the feelings to flow through you. Do not try to shove them down and cover them like they do not exist. Approach them with kindness and love. Your body will begin to shift and understand that it is no longer distressed and needing to overeat. Bonus – through listening to your emotions, you are more likely to discover what is truly bothering you allowing you to create new ways to satisfy these cravings.

These aren’t your typical maidens in Damsels in Excess #1

When you think of Damsels in Distress you think of ladies who are unable to handle themselves. In Damsels in Excess #1, this is not the case.  In the land of the Five Realms, the existence of men has long since been evaporated from the hearts and minds of women. Princess Bethany–ruler of Evanfar, the largest and most prominent kingdom, finds herself at the center of a vast conspiracy that could not only threaten her kingdom-but also her life!

Writing

Vince Hernandez has colorfully constructed the beginning of an intriguing series. This issue is mostly for building the characteristics of what he refers to as the Five. In Damsels in Excess #1, there is the five royalty that we meet. The Damsels are coming together to celebrate the Princess Bethany’s name day. As the story begins, we are brought up to speed on why there isn’t one man within the five realms.

Damsels in Excess #1

Damsels in Excess #1

Each quirky and royal damsel is introduced within this first issue. Allowing us to see how strong and confident some are where others are backstabbers and reminded me of Cersai from Game of Thrones. Reading through the story you will connect with certain Damsels hoping that their stories are happily ever after. Even if there aren’t any “Princes”.

Hernandez gives personalities to these Damsels that many of us can relate to. Also, he adds some cattiness to certain ones that will start creating some rifts throughout this issue. Furthermore, there are certain situations that are placed in this issue that brings unanswered questions between the Five and also potentially small child that is found.

ART

Mirka Andolfo brought the heat on these covers/interiors. To begin with, the cheery colors and scantily clad ladies perked my attention. Though, what won me over was Bethany and her punk rock, gypsy look with badass hair and piercings.  Damsels in Excess #1 brought a brighter outlook for a medieval time and Andolfo helped bring this to life.

Though it was heavily brought to life by colors and the ladies themselves, Simone Di Meo helped shape these ladies with some helpful ink-work.

Final Thoughts

As a result, I was thoroughly impressed and intrigued by this interesting story line. In the beginning, reading that there were not any male characters I had to let go of my usual romantic excitements within stories. Or do I? There are many twists, turns and troubles that appear. I was not to fond of certain characters especially those that you could tell were up to no good.

How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours – Wayne Dyer

Relationships are everywhere. Work, home, pets, friends, family… Everywhere you look, turn, and run there are relationships there to support you or there are relationships there to dethrone you.

Something that has been difficult for me to understand and grasp fully, is that you can never control the other person. You may not understand or know how the other person is feeling. You can’t always understand why the person does what they do. You can’t dictate how they react. Most importantly You Cannot Change The Past.

It was on and off, if you can relate. It was not physically abusive, though mentally and verbally it fit the bill.

It broke me.

I kept going back and kept thinking there was something wrong with me. I felt that this person, just like I was doing for them, had my best interest at heart.

I would only feel secure when he showed me affection. When it was absent I would spiral into deep dark depression thinking “What am I doing wrong to not receive his love?” Yet, as I look back his love was only empty promises, empty lines, empty “I love you’s”, “I will never leave you”, “You are everything to me”

Then, after the second time I caught him speaking to one of his exes, I realized how I was walking on eggshells. How I was living a fraction of my life. Most of it in fear. The other half in false hope. Every time we would break up, or I felt the strength to walk away, I would come back because I wanted to feel that love, appreciation, affection. Only to feel like I had made the worst decision and wondering if he was messaging anyone else.

Which is usually when the timing came for him to come right back into my world.

Finally the end…

It was December 2015, he was distant, abrasive, and short with me. He stayed out with “friends” and slept on the couch. The inevitable happened. He broke it off with me. I remember that Thursday night. Crying and begging him to work on things and that I was sorry for whatever I may have done. It affects me the most when I am romantically with someone. I lash out when I feel down on myself. I break out in tears when I feel overwhelmed. I am accusatory. I have nights I want to curl under the covers and ignore everyone and maybe sleep for two days straight. Then be upset that I wasted valuable time. I hate myself because I can see my anxiety causing issues yet I can’t control it as easily as I would like.

So this is where I am – trying to make sense of things that don’t make sense. Working with a therapist and trying to use other outlets, such as blogging, to help release these negative thoughts and hopefully reaching someone else. Maybe shedding some light to others that are close to me. Which when reading this they will go “That is why you are doing that” It is me trying to be strong and transparient, loving and compassionate, supportive and brave for all those other struggling with similar situations.

Depression is not something to take lightly. This is a disease of the brain. Experts believe that there are certain chemicals that falter out of balance to cause this disease. Over 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression. That isn’t including those who have not spoke to anyone.

Good News is that this is a disease that can be managed and worked with using less invasive techniques. Which we will go over within this blog.

Let us be honest for many (including myself) that morning cup of Joe is a treasured ritual. Yet, when one cup becomes two… then three, then a pot, even more this feels more like an addiction than a “treat”.

In no way am I here to demonize this outstanding treasure.

There have even been studies showing that the benefits outweigh the risks. Though if your coffee controls you and the experience of not drinking coffee is painful, there may be more downsides for you.

So, Let us talk about the good, the bad and also some solutions for those who want to bring in the reigns of this addicitve jitter juice.

Coffee & Sleep

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.92″ text_font=”Aclonica||||||||” text_font_size=”16px”]

A good night sleep helps you heal. Having a restful sleep activates your body’s own regenerative abilities. This time allows your body to repair and restore itself.

Yet, coffee (because of caffeine) can be the enemy of a restful slumber.

One Study measured sleep quality when people consume 400mg of caffeine (which is about a venti from Starbucks) at bedtime, 3 hours before bedtime and 6 hours before bedtime. All groups experienced a statsitcally lower amount of sleep.

SO!

Even that mid-afternoon pick me up may be disrupting the restfulness and quality of your zzz’s.

Coffee & Your Adrenals

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.92″ text_font=”Aclonica||||||||” text_font_size=”16px” header_font=”||||||||”]

How does the cup of Joe effect your mojo? Well, when you drink caffeine, neurons are triggered within your brain. Your adrenal glands start pumping out adrenaline.

Adrenaline is what is used for our “fight or flight” response. This is fantastic for when we need to lift a car off of an injured person or run away from a saber tooth tiger. Though if you are sitting at your desk sorting through your emails, probably not.

When Adrenaline wears off, you’re left feeling, moody, anxious, and wiped out. What  do we do then? Duh! More Caffeine please! Sometimes if we can’t get caffeine we move to sure or any other stimulant you can find.

Adrenal Exhuastion

This stops our little glands from doing their many jobs, which include: producing other essential hormones, boosting the immune system, regulating the health of your body tissues and balancing blood sugars.

Similar to an alcoholic, coffee drinkers need more and more caffeine over time to get the same boost. Welcome to adrenal burnout!

Symptoms of burnout: constant low blood sugar, depressions, fatigue, allergies, joint and muscle pain, even chronic infections.

Good News!

These symptoms of burnout and adrenal exhaustion can be remedied! How you ask? Well simple, if it is caused by too much caffeine you just need to eliminate EXCESSIVE stimulants and stresses on the body. If you can keep your intake to one to two cups of caffeinated coffee a day, you probably won’t experience the roller coaster.

4 Tips To Reduce Caffeine:

*Drink a green juice before enjoying your cup of coffee. The more juice you drink, the fewer outside stimulants you will need to feel energized.

*Drink green or white tea after you’ve met your 2 cup limit. The relatively small amount of caffeine within these drinks will definitely help you transition.

*Try cacao (raw chocolate). It contains small traces of caffeine. Add it to your smoothie or juice!

*Brew up something tat mimics the taste of coffee. Teeccino or Dandy Blend are great herbal substitutes!
