Mermaid memoir 1

My Story is one filled with anxiety, depression, uncertainty, and mistakes.

A memoir is memories that an individual writes about moments or events, either public or private, that took place in the subject’s life.

Moving forward these will be my Mermaid Memoirs.

It is raining today. The soft sound of the pitter-patter or droplets upon the ground. Watching them happily dance on the leaves of the tree outside of my dining room window. These create a calming to the day. A subtlety that gets forgotten within the bustle of our busy world. My heart weeps. Therefore, It feels just like the rain outside. The debilitating anxiety causes the inability to be able to finish the tasks that I need to. I feel even worse about myself. To clarify, with zero energy, drive, or focus to bring myself to fulfill any of my aspirations.

Anxiety rises within my chest causing my heart to flutter and my lungs become tight.
My eyes begin to burn as the tears form filling up the bottom lid blurring my vision. I feel like I let everyone down, I feel like a failure, not good enough and that I am not worthy.

I have fallen back into the self-help realm. With the absence of these books and podcasts and without any of my ongoing practices of meditation and yoga I feel disconnected. Disconnected from the world around me and mostly myself. My true inner self. Connecting to the Universe, I can get things done, feel less foggy and definitely not as depressed.

That is to say, all of the things I want to do and accomplish suffocate me. I want my podcast to be a successful place to bring awareness and aid to anxiety and depression.

My website keeps falling behind. I would like it to be a place to come to share and bring hope, love and more ways to overcome feelings of not being good enough. Similarly, my site should be providing information like my top gurus.

In conclusion, I want to write books and inspire others.

Yet, now with the stress becoming overwhelming and taking over my feelings I am now heading back down the stairs to see if I can find something to eat. It starts with my coffee, then oatmeal, the next thing I know, I am elbows deep in a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream. Where did this even come from?

Now, I feel guilt, more anxiety and the overwhelming feeling that I failed yet again. Well, also feeling bloated and upset that I am not looking like a IFBB pro, how do I get so out of control?

Can you relate?

This is emotional eating. It happens more than you may think. It isn’t about clearing out the fridge like Kirby with one breath in. It is when you find yourself eating for reasons other than satisfying your actual physical hunger.

I do not believe that it is solely our fault. Marketing for food companies constantly strive to build a connection between food and our emotions. We are promised an emotional benefit beyond the food itself which is closely linked to comfort, excitement, even belonging.

The Anxiety Starts To Take Over…

The anxiety starts to take over and I can feel this persistent nagging within in my belly. A flutter in my chest and my mind is feeling like it is running at Ludacris speed. I begin to pick at my nails, jump from social media app to social media app, stopping myself after a few minutes to try and focus so that I can write. I took a couple of hours off from work today. So that I could write a blog post and here I am looking up other things and wasting time.

Building with pressure in my chest!

It provides a momentary sense of pleasure and satisfaction when you are not feeling the greatest. Yet, why are you not feeling well? Overeating has a numbing, softening effect on our unwanted feelings. Love Yourself. When your emotions go awry what are some things you can do to take care of yourself in a loving manner? I choose journaling. I write about how I am feeling and what may be causing these issues.

It is OK to feel sad, mad, depressed, scared, exhausted, etc. Welcome the feelings to flow through you. Do not try to shove them down and cover them like they do not exist. Approach them with kindness and love. Your body will begin to shift and understand that it is no longer distressed and needing to overeat. Bonus – through listening to your emotions, you are more likely to discover what is truly bothering you allowing you to create new ways to satisfy these cravings.

How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours – Wayne Dyer

Relationships are everywhere. Work, home, pets, friends, family… Everywhere you look, turn, and run there are relationships there to support you or there are relationships there to dethrone you.

Something that has been difficult for me to understand and grasp fully, is that you can never control the other person. You may not understand or know how the other person is feeling. You can’t always understand why the person does what they do. You can’t dictate how they react. Most importantly You Cannot Change The Past.

It was on and off, if you can relate. It was not physically abusive, though mentally and verbally it fit the bill.

It broke me.

I kept going back and kept thinking there was something wrong with me. I felt that this person, just like I was doing for them, had my best interest at heart.

I would only feel secure when he showed me affection. When it was absent I would spiral into deep dark depression thinking “What am I doing wrong to not receive his love?” Yet, as I look back his love was only empty promises, empty lines, empty “I love you’s”, “I will never leave you”, “You are everything to me”

Then, after the second time I caught him speaking to one of his exes, I realized how I was walking on eggshells. How I was living a fraction of my life. Most of it in fear. The other half in false hope. Every time we would break up, or I felt the strength to walk away, I would come back because I wanted to feel that love, appreciation, affection. Only to feel like I had made the worst decision and wondering if he was messaging anyone else.

Though, through these times I would start to work on myself. Lean on books by Louise Hay, Gabby Bernstein and Wayne Dyer. Started exercising, eating well and feeling much happier. Which is usually when the timing came for him to come right back into my world.

Finally the end…

It was December 2015, he was distant, abrasive, and short with me. He stayed out with “friends” and slept on the couch. The inevitable happened. He broke it off with me. I remember that Thursday night. Crying and begging him to work on things and that I was sorry for whatever I may have done. That Friday morning driving his kids to school saying goodbye for good, my things in tow.

Not realizing that this definitely a God send.

I hate myself because I can see my anxiety causing issues yet I can’t control it as easily as I would like.

So this is where I am – trying to make sense of things that don’t make sense. Working with a therapist and trying to use other outlets, such as blogging, to help release these negative thoughts and hopefully reaching someone else. Maybe shedding some light to others that are close to me. Depression is not something to take lightly. This is a disease of the brain. Experts believe that there are certain chemicals that falter out of balance to cause this disease. Over 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression. That isn’t including those who have not spoke to anyone.

Good News is that this is a disease that can be managed and worked with using less invasive techniques. Which we will go over within this blog.

Coffee & Sleep

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.92″ text_font=”Aclonica||||||||” text_font_size=”16px”]

A good night sleep helps you heal. Having a restful sleep activates your body’s own regenerative abilities. This time allows your body to repair and restore itself.

Yet, coffee (because of caffeine) can be the enemy of a restful slumber.

One Study measured sleep quality when people consume 400mg of caffeine (which is about a venti from Starbucks) at bedtime, 3 hours before bedtime and 6 hours before bedtime. All groups experienced a statsitcally lower amount of sleep.

SO!

Even that mid-afternoon pick me up may be disrupting the restfulness and quality of your zzz’s.

Coffee & Your Adrenals

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.92″ text_font=”Aclonica||||||||” text_font_size=”16px” header_font=”||||||||”]

How does the cup of Joe effect your mojo? Well, when you drink caffeine, neurons are triggered within your brain. Your adrenal glands start pumping out adrenaline.

Adrenaline is what is used for our “fight or flight” response. This is fantastic for when we need to lift a car off of an injured person or run away from a saber tooth tiger. Though if you are sitting at your desk sorting through your emails, probably not.

When Adrenaline wears off, you’re left feeling, moody, anxious, and wiped out. What  do we do then? Duh! More Caffeine please! Sometimes if we can’t get caffeine we move to sure or any other stimulant you can find.

Adrenal Exhuastion

This stops our little glands from doing their many jobs, which include: producing other essential hormones, boosting the immune system, regulating the health of your body tissues and balancing blood sugars.

Similar to an alcoholic, coffee drinkers need more and more caffeine over time to get the same boost. Welcome to adrenal burnout!

Symptoms of burnout: constant low blood sugar, depressions, fatigue, allergies, joint and muscle pain, even chronic infections.

Good News!

These symptoms of burnout and adrenal exhaustion can be remedied! How you ask? Well simple, if it is caused by too much caffeine you just need to eliminate EXCESSIVE stimulants and stresses on the body. If you can keep your intake to one to two cups of caffeinated coffee a day, you probably won’t experience the roller coaster.

4 Tips To Reduce Caffeine:

*Drink a green juice before enjoying your cup of coffee. The more juice you drink, the fewer outside stimulants you will need to feel energized.

*Drink green or white tea after you’ve met your 2 cup limit. The relatively small amount of caffeine within these drinks will definitely help you transition.

*Try cacao (raw chocolate). It contains small traces of caffeine. Add it to your smoothie or juice!

*Brew up something tat mimics the taste of coffee. Teeccino or Dandy Blend are great herbal substitutes!

Christmas is just around the corner

As Christmas draws near, so does the period of long holidays and endless festivities. Every holiday and festivity cannot be a success without great food! We all know how much I absolutely LOVE food!

Regardless of the whether you wish to go on a family vacation or have a family reunion at home, food is the major factor to a successful celebration. That said, you may be wishing to switch up the normal Christmas cuisine for something that will leave a lasting impression.

Who doesn’t love waking up on Christmas morning with crisp air, fireplaces crackling, and breakfast and coffee cooking/brewing within the kitchen?

Just for you, I decided to add a couple of my favorite recipes from some of my favorite websites to help out this Christmas Season.

What is Leaky Gut Syndrome, or Intestinal Permeability, is a condition in which the lining of the small intestine becomes damaged, causing undigested food particles, toxic waste products and bacteria to “leak” through the intestines and flood the bloodstream”

Anyone hearing this description about their own intestines might be a little alarmed, but this is becoming an extremely common condition thanks to the varying foods we all eat, the busy lifestyles we lead, and even some medications we might be taking for other ailments.

Nevertheless, there are many tips available to help heal Leaky Gut Syndrome, and to have a healthier lifestyle over all.

Try an elimination diet

Eliminating certain foods that are commonly known to cause problems, like dairy, soy and gluten, can help to pinpoint which foods are triggering problems with the gut; thus letting you know which foods to avoid in the future. Going through the elimination period for two weeks can make a world of difference to mind, body and soul! Furthermore, by keeping a food diary of what you eat, and then paying close attention to how your body reacts and keeping notes on that, you can be much more strategic with what you remove from your diet, and what you reintroduce.

If you feel bloated, fatigued, or gassy, add that food to your elimination list. “Most likely,” says Lipski, “your gut is telling you what foods it is sensitive to. You just need to listen.”

Work on reducing your stress

Research has shown that stress can affect us physically as well as emotionally. In relation to Leaky Gut Syndrome, stress is a common cause; it increases fatigue and interrupts sleep, which the body needs to heal itself. Luckily, there are lots of ways to reduce stress with these small steps – go for a 10 minute walk, take a quiet moment with the some herbal tea before bed, or even just sit by yourself quietly for 15-20 minutes. All of these strategies have been proven to reduce stress and will help improve any stomach issues you’re experiencing.

Hydrate!

You hear it everywhere you go – drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day, stay hydrated, water is good for your skin and your digestive system. Well it’s all true, and it’s one of the easier things to do when you’re stuck at home dealing with a tricky gut, going back and forth to the bathroom.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.0.76″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.92″ text_font=”Aclonica||||||||” text_font_size=”16px”]By drinking plenty of water regularly, you can lubricate your insides, and stop your gut problems from getting worse.

Leaky Gut Syndrome is extremely treatable, and it starts with what you do at home, including changes to diet, physical and mental lifestyle, and even changing to a different painkiller.

These are only a few of the tips available to help heal Leaky Syndrome, and ideally if you think you have any of the symptoms (bloating, food sensitivities, headaches, fatigue) and are unsure of how to deal with them, then you should consult your local GP.

Meditation is not as difficult as you may think. Also, with a regular practice it offers immense benefits.
Yeah right… Like what?

So glad you asked!

Some benefits include:

increased brain density,

a boost in connections between neurons,

my personal fav is obvi decreased symptoms of depression and anxiety,

One of the easiest ways is to find a quiet place where you can close your eyes and begin some breathing techniques. Breathing techniques are the shit and probably my favorite technique in life. You can always drop some stress by using Pranayama. Learn it, Live it, Love it!

As you continue these techniques and become more seasoned at meditation, you will likely notice significant improvements in your energy, health and mental/emotional balance.

Here are just a couple of other methods:
